(For more information on the properties of eucalyptus oil, feel free to consult the radiant eucalyptus table)
Anticatarrhal activity:
Nasal catarrh is an acute inflammation of the nasal mucosa, accompanied by hypersecretion of mucus: in other words, a large, clear flow of fluid from the nasal cavity. Eucalyptus oil not only improves mucus drainage by activating the ciliary cells of the respiratory tree, but also limits mucus production: it dries out the airways.
respiratory viral disease
The mechanism of action of the antiviral activity of essential oils, especially Ravintsara, is far from fully elucidated. Nonetheless, eucalyptus oil has been shown to stimulate the body’s antiviral response (by activating the IFR3 factor) in a rhinosinusitis model.
Therefore, if still necessary, this observation justifies the use of Ravintsara during respiratory diseases and other viral diseases.
