Hornets will become increasingly threatening as the long-awaited sunny days of spring approach. Here are some tips to lessen the bite they may inflict on you.
When spring comes, nature wakes up and wasps wake up from their long hibernation that lasted all winter. And the closer you get to warmer weather, the more they’ll emerge from newly built nests, becoming a potential threat to your outdoor walks. When that period comes, it’s useful to know a few tricks to ease the pain of these unwanted insect bites.
Step One: Eliminate the Venom
Mosquitoes inject saliva when they bite their victims, and wasps, like bees, inject venom. It is this, not the sting itself, that is so painful. The first thing to do after being bitten is to remove the venom.
For this, if you have a venom pump on hand, you can use it. Otherwise, an intense heat source may work. All you have to do is hold a lighter or blow dryer at the sting site without touching the skin and this will kill the venom the wasp has deposited under your skin.
disinfect your bite
After the first step, you must disinfect the bite site. Local disinfectants are great for this purpose, and if you don’t have one, you can make your own with white vinegar diluted with a little water and apply with a sterile compress.
Then allow the bite to air dry without protecting it with dressings or bandages.
Lavender Essential Oil for Pain Relief
If the pain from a wasp sting persists despite your efforts, a few tips can help you forget about it. For this, nothing beats lavender essential oil. The latter has an antivenomous effect and is very useful against all insect bites.
To use, apply 1 to 2 drops of this essential oil to the bite and pat it in periodically for a few minutes. Please update this app from time to time if the pain doesn’t go away.
Onions and garlic, very effective against wasp venom
What is less known is that this technique has the advantage of giving you some healing in many situations. It is indeed hard to find a house without onions or garlic cloves in the kitchen!
To ease the pain when you have just been bitten, slice an onion or crush a clove of garlic. Apply a little of these ingredients (but not too much so as not to cause a skin reaction) and let it sit for a while, guaranteed results! (This approach is contraindicated in people receiving anticoagulant therapy).
Consider homeopathy in your first aid kit
Homeopathy, like all everyday ailments, can be treated with plants. Insect bites are no exception.
To relieve bites, remember to always take Apis Mellifica 9Ch and Ledum Palustre 9Ch and take three capsules every half hour or every hour after a bite. You can also take 3 Vespa Crabo 9Ch granules 5 to 6 times a day for the beneficial effects of pain relief.
