Eucalyptus globosa is an excellent essential oil for treating respiratory infections, especially lower ones, such as wet coughs or bronchitis. It can also be used for upper respiratory tract infectious diseases, such as colds, nasopharyngitis, and sinusitis. The presence of ketones to a greater or lesser extent would cause us to avoid their use in young children and pregnant women.
Of course, the quality of eucalyptus essential oil is as crucial as all other essential oils. Care should be taken in the selection of high-quality essential oils to limit the risk of irritation and dryness of the mucous membranes, which can lead to irritating cough attacks rather than soothing them.
When is Eucalyptus globular essential oil used?
Productive respiratory illness (wet cough, bronchitis, pneumonia, emphysema, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
ENT infectious diseases (cold, rhinitis, nasopharyngitis, sinusitis, otitis media)
febrile state, flu
muscle or joint pain
respiratory infectious disease
The therapeutic properties of Eucalyptus globosa are mainly related to its richness in 1,8-cineole (commonly known as cineole), as well as some sesquiterpenes and a few ketones.
Eucalyptol is a remarkable therapeutic substance with various activities:
Expectorant activity: Eucalyptus oil increases the motility of the ciliary cells of the respiratory tree, allowing for a more effective expulsion of mucus.
Anti-Inflammatory Activity: Eucalyptus oil is particularly helpful in reducing inflammatory states commonly treated with steroids. However, it should be noted that eucalyptol has no side effects of long-term steroid use.
Antispasmodic and Bronchodilator Activity: In case of obstructive lesions of the respiratory tree, such as asthma or COPD (Obstructive Bronchopulmonary Disease), bronchoconstriction, inflammation and hypersecretion of mucus. Eucalyptus essential oil, which is rich in 1,8-cineole, has an antispasmodic effect on smooth muscle fibers: that is, they relax the airways so that one can breathe more easily.
Decongestant and antitussive effects
Because of all these breathing properties, we often recommend the use of Eucalyptus globosa essential oil for:
Respiratory disorders of the lower respiratory tract (lungs, bronchi):
acute bronchitis
pneumonia
emphysema
Respiratory diseases of the upper respiratory tract (throat, nose, sinuses), when the pathology is already in an advanced stage or there are already signs of exacerbation or superinfection . In these cases, don’t hesitate to associate it with eucalyptus radiata and/or green myrtle.
Cold, Nasopharyngitis
influenza
sinusitis
Wet cough (do not use for dry cough)
Sinusitis, rhinitis.
In topical application, at the temple and sinus level, dilute 5% to 20%, alone or in combination with mucolytic and pain-relieving essential oils such as peppermint and/or medicinal rosemary and verbenone.
Caution: Do not apply on eyes
Inhalation: Put 5 drops in a bowl of steaming water, hold for 1 to 10 minutes in the absence of fever, inhale deeply the hot steam in a sitting position. Close your eyes tightly. Do not go out for 30 minutes after inhalation.
nasopharyngitis
In topical application, on the chest and neck, dilute 5% to 20%, alone or in combination with essential oils of spearmint, lemon eucalyptus, and/or green myrtle.
Oral: 1 drop of spherical eucalyptus + 1 drop of radiant eucalyptus + 1 drop of chamomile, 3 times a day in the mouth
(For precautions, please refer to the instruction manual of each essential oil)
wet cough
In topical application, at chest and back level, diluted 5% to 20%, alone or in combination with mucolytic, anti-inflammatory and anti-infective essential oils such as peppermint eucalyptus, black spruce and/or geranium thyme
Oral administration: 1 drop of eucalyptus + 1 drop of lemon essence + 1 drop of feverfew honey, in the mouth, 3 times a day
(For precautions, please refer to the instruction manual of each essential oil)
acne treatment
Excessive sebum production is one of the factors that lead to acne. In addition to the antiseptic properties of the essential oil, the eucalyptol it contains also reduces the size of the sebaceous glands, thereby reducing sebum production. Therefore, eucalyptus globules can be part of acne care for oily or combination skin.
oily or combination skin
Combine equal parts of Jojoba, Eucalyptus and Palmarosa essential oils. Add one drop to your day cream until noticeable improvement, then use at intervals: every two days, then every three days.
joint or muscle pain
Eucalyptus globular essential oil has the following properties
Anti-inflammatory activity
Redness activity: locally activates blood circulation, produces analgesic effect.
Skin Penetration Enhancer: Eucalyptus oil increases the penetration of other actives through the skin.
The presence of cymene: enhances the analgesic properties normally observed with essential oils rich in 1,8-cineole.
Muscle relaxant effect: verified by electromyography.
Therefore, adding eucalyptus globular oil to a massage oil will help with its analgesic effect in cases such as a painful cough, a febrile state accompanied by body aches, or even joint or muscle pain. (Painkiller) preparations.
muscle ache
Topical application alone or mixed with Camphor Rosemary and Lemon Eucalyptus, both diluted at 10%
joint pain
To increase the penetration of other essential oils and the effectiveness of the blend, you can add 1% to 2% of Eucalyptus globosa to your usual pain reliever preparation
muscles relax
After physical exertion, Eucalyptus globular oil is used alone or mixed with essential oils of Lemon Eucalyptus and Sweet Orange (Peel), both diluted at 5% in Arnica and Sweet Almond vegetable oils, for muscles.
