Some essential oils have significant antiviral properties that can help fight infections (colds, flu, etc.) and their symptoms. However, they should be used with caution.
Ravensala Essential Oil
Immunostimulant and antibacterial, ravintsara essential oil is the most versatile antiviral essential oil. For example, it can be used on infants, young children, and pregnant women over 4 months. It can be diffused in the atmosphere or applied topically by diluting 5% to 20%.
Ceylon cinnamon
Cinnamon essential oil has very broad spectrum anti-infective properties against bacteria, viruses, fungi, endo- and ecto-parasites. But it must be used with caution as it is irritating to the skin and mucous membranes. Therefore it must be diluted to 10%.
lemon essential oil
Lemon essential oil has antibacterial and antiviral properties and can be used for infections (colds, coughs, flu, etc.). It also knows some contraindications. It can be used neat, orally, or diffused in the atmosphere, including in infants.
Eucalyptus essential oil
Eucalyptus radiata essential oil has immune booster, antibacterial and antiviral properties. For pregnant women and babies older than 3 months, Eucalyptus essential oil can be used in an atmospheric diffusion, diluted up to 30% in other essential oils. For dermal application it must be diluted up to 20%.
clove essential oil
Clove essential oil has immunostimulatory and antibacterial properties. It must be used with caution and in the short term only by diffusion and dermal routes, provided it is strongly diluted (10% and 20%, respectively). Contraindicated during pregnancy and children under 6 years of age.
Laurel essential oil
Laurel Noble essential oil has antiviral properties thanks to its linalool, eugenol, alpha pinene and beta pinene. Irritant to skin, must be diluted to 20% in vegetable oil prior to any skin application. Children and babies can use this essential oil in an atmospheric diffusion. If suffering from asthma or epilepsy, it is recommended to seek medical advice before use.
lavender essential oil
Lavender essential oil, not to be confused with spike lavender essential oil, has immune-boosting and antibacterial properties. All routes of use are possible (dermal, oral, diffusion or inhalation). On the other hand, it must be contraindicated if the pregnancy is less than 3 months old, if the blood pressure is severe, or if the baby is less than 3 months old.
Tea tree oil
Tea tree essential oil has immunostimulatory and antiviral properties. Active against many viruses, including HSV (herpes) and influenza (flu), it is particularly suitable for the diffuse and dermal routes, diluted up to 20%. Due to its risk of contact dermatitis, it is recommended to test it before regular use.
peppermint essential oil
Peppermint essential oil is a powerful antiviral agent. However, it should be used with caution, as excessive intake can cause respiratory discomfort or convulsions. As a precaution, not recommended for children under 6 years and pregnant women.
Dense Oregano Essential Oil
Densified oregano essential oil has antiviral properties, thanks to the phenolics it contains, which inactivate viruses and stimulate immunity. Irritating to skin and mucous membranes, oral administration and inhalation are not recommended.
