Aromatherapy is a science worthy of our study, and that of our faithful four-legged friends. However, be careful to follow some recommendations before using essential oils.
Aromatherapy, did you know? Don’t waste a minute getting started, it will allow you to treat your cat or dog the natural way.
precautions taken
First, know that animals can be allergic too. Therefore, one must be vigilant when applying essential oils to their fur. If they’re not used to it, diffuse a very small amount at home first (use a diffuser instead of a burner). The animal gets used to it and its particularly sensitive and well-developed sense of smell is not disturbed.
Do not apply pure essential oils to your animals, mix them with a small amount of alcohol or a neutral vegetable oil. Avoid contact with animals if they are pregnant or females are nursing. If you have any doubts, even the smallest, consult a veterinarian or aromatherapist.
Tea Tree’s Superpowers on Animals
Since we couldn’t do an inventory of the hundreds of essential oils that exist on the market, we had to do our search based on which ones are most commonly used for dogs or cats. In a practical way, apply a few drops (one or two) on the basis of alcohol or vegetable oil, preferably on areas where the animal does not lick: behind the ears, on the ears or on the neck. You can also put a few drops on a scarf wrapped around an animal’s neck.
If you don’t already know the many uses of the Tea tree, you’ll soon have to go to your herbalist and get some! Antimicrobial, antifungal, antiviral, immune booster, antiparasitic, tea tree essential oil is ideal for animals and smells great!
An Effective Anti-Worm Cocktail
Since our animals are often infested with worms, they must be treated regularly. The problem is, the treatments offered are often quite intense and can have a bad effect on our four-legged friends. That’s why this little recipe is great for you.
Mix 30 drops of Cinnamon Essential Oil, 15 drops of Green Oregano Essential Oil, 20 drops of Tea Tree Essential Oil, 10 drops of Roman Chamomile Essential Oil, and 60 drops (3mL) of Wheat Germ Vegetable Oil in a clean, dry bottle. Shake it, label it, and it’s ready to go! Two to four times a year, depending on the dog’s lifestyle, instill 4 drops per 10 kg per day in food for 3 days.
Essential Oil Based Shampoos
Since few shampoos fully respect the delicate skin of animals, this recipe can help. Know that it is especially recommended if your dog or cat is experiencing redness, itching, and skin problems.
In a clean, dry bottle, add 4 drops of Geranium, Lavender, Roman Chamomile and Rosewood (or Tansy) to 250ml of dog shampoo or mild washing base. Ready, all you have to do is convince your pup!
