Microneedling is a beauty treatment from the United States that helps reduce acne scars. It also helps correct blemishes and improve signs of aging. Still little known, microneedling involves micro-perforating different layers of the dermis to improve skin blemishes and signs of aging.
Here’s everything you need to know about this rejuvenating skincare regimen.
Microneedling, what is it?
Microneedling is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure. It is performed using a small roller consisting of about thirty microneedles, which are designed to pierce the dermis and epidermis at various depths.
These tiny perforations, invisible to the naked eye, speed up the absorption of the serum, based on your skin concerns identified in advance with your specialist. In addition, they stimulate:
cell renewal;
Collagen production;
Production of elastin.
This effective skin-sublimating technique can be used on young and mature skin, whether dry, combination or oily, to correct imperfections such as:
dull complexion;
lack of skin firmness;
Signs of aging: wrinkles, fine lines;
acne scars;
dilated pores;
regulate excess sebum;
brown spots.
For visible and long-lasting results, 3 to 4 sessions are recommended, depending on the blemish to be corrected.
Microneedling is a bit painful. Feelings vary with each person’s level of sensitivity. Small bleeding may occur. After a facial, the skin will usually be reddened and tender within 24 to 48 hours.
Who can practice microneedling?
microneedling at home
Previously reserved for research, the dermaroller is now available for purchase. The rollers will have finer titanium microneedles ranging from 0.1 to 0.2 mm.
For at-home facials, we recommend starting with:
Disinfect the dermaroller with a disinfectant spray to prevent bacteria from entering the dermis;
deep cleansing of the skin;
Apply the serum of your choice to the surface of the skin;
use the dermaroller over the entire face, applying light pressure from vertical to horizontal;
Continue with palliative care.
Before proceeding with this treatment, make sure your skin is healthy, meaning free of cuts, irritations or breakouts. After a microneedling session, it is recommended not to apply makeup or water to your face for at least 24 hours, your skin is still sensitive.
Research Institute Microneedle
It is performed manually with a roller equipped with 0.5 mm thick needles:
Thoroughly cleanses the face, removes cellular debris and extracts comedones;
Apply a serum rich in active ingredients to your skin;
The beautician uses rollers with vertical and horizontal movements over the entire face;
The treatment ends with a facial massage and a mask tailored to your skin type.
The price of microneedling varies from 150 to 250 euros per session, depending on the institution and service provided.
Microneedling and RF
Some institutes combine microneedling with radiofrequency, whose electromagnetic waves stimulate natural collagen production. A course in phototherapy at the end of the treatment may also be indicated to promote regeneration and boost collagen production.
