lemon
In addition to its many health benefits, lemons are your ally in whiter teeth. The citric acid it contains helps fight tartar, the thickening of plaque that is partly responsible for yellowing teeth. In addition, tartar can be the cause of tooth decay, gum disease (such as gingivitis or periodontitis), and bad breath.
baking soda
Baking soda is an ingredient often recommended for teeth whitening. Baking soda is a true natural stain remover with mild abrasive properties that reduce plaque and smooth enamel. It also has the benefit of cleaning the mouth and preventing the formation of cavities.
Tea tree oil
In addition to treating gingivitis, canker sores, abscesses, and bad breath, tea tree oil (also known as Melaleuca) helps clean the mouth and teeth. Its antibacterial and antifungal properties make this oil an excellent oral antiseptic. While this has not been scientifically proven, tea tree oil also contains active ingredients that may whiten teeth.
Brush your teeth several times a day
Optimal oral hygiene is also required to have a healthy mouth and white teeth. Good tooth brushing removes plaque (part of what causes tooth staining) and reduces the risk of dental caries.
It is recommended to brush your teeth 2 to 3 times a day, ideally after each meal, for 3 minutes. It is also recommended to use a toothbrush that suits your needs, preferably soft or medium, as hard toothbrushes risk damaging the gum and eventually loosening the teeth.
eat an apple
Chewing an apple after a meal causes salivation, which counteracts acidity and bacterial activity of Streptococcus mutans (= bacteria that form part of the oral flora). Apples do not stick to the teeth and allow for some cleaning, which limits the formation of cavities. Chewing also helps to massage the gum, which is effective against inflammation of the latter (gingivitis). If you don’t have a chance to brush your teeth, such as during lunch at work, I suggest you eat an apple. Be careful, it is not a substitute for brushing your teeth!
